2012 Goals

Though I'm numbering them, it is mostly so I can keep track.  This will be an open ended list BTW, always evolving.

Practice is the art of repeatedly engaging in an activity to develop a skill. - Ali Edwards
1. To practice more.
I have a cello.  I used to play in highschool, loved it.  Haven't played now for 19 years, and yet it seems like high school was yesterday.  Hmph.  This year, my goal is to practice it at least once a week.  I can do that right?  If I can do more then so be it.

2. Exercise more interestingly.
I'm not in the group of people who like to take exercise class category.  I just am not that interested in watching myself flop around like a trained circus seal in front of mirrors trying to learn a routine that size negative up there is teaching at the speed of light to ridiculous music whilst being cherry.  Yep, not interested.  Not that I am a scrooge or grinch about it, it's just that I don't really find myself attractive NOT exercising.  If I am doing it for a positive readjustment, I think I would rather go on a bike ride - sans the mirror and positive cheerleader.  So I've made a deal to try and do 50 side leg kicks a day, each time I go into the kitchen.  5 on each side or 10, depending.  The way our house is laid out, our kitchen is out in the open.  It's a rental, I didn't have a choice.  Take more evening walks with the family, hell walk more.  The area I live is gorgeous and has these amazing walking trails.  This will fit in nicely with the next goal.

3. Take more pictures.
This is a very personal one for me, I've been photographing for 19 years.  I've built a photography business before, and I love taking pictures of people, but my personal love and my business love always seem to clash and then it becomes too much of a hassle to actually enjoy photography again.  So I'm taking it slow this year.  If my business takes off, then great but I'm shooting for me this year. (Project Life)

4. Eat Better and Plan to Eat Better
We're vegetarians in this house, well most of us are anyway.  The kiddo eats an omnivorous diet, and well she eats what eat when we make it.  The hardest part is saving money on being vegetarian, I know it is hard to believe, but the fact is that I throw out a lot of fresh veg and we've been eating more frozen veg, which is fine BUT expensive.  So this year I want to freeze my own veg.  This will take some planning, not just on our weekly shopping excursions, but also as far as space.  We don't really have a lot of freezer space, so I often end up not buying things that are on sale for the sake of space.  But with better planning - I should be able to have plenty of room.  We also eat a lot of sushi.  A LOT.  It is expensive to buy premade, we've paid up to $5 each for a takeaway and sometimes in a restaurant we've paid $7 a person.  That's quite a bit a year.  So, I'm going to buy some tools to help mitigate this cost and make it healthier.  Meal planning.

5. Recipe Binder
Also this year, in conjunction with the photography goal - I have a goal of building a recipe a week. My mom and I have this project/challenge we want to work on together where we build a recipe a week and then make a binder out of them.

6. Keep an On-Going To-Do List
I need a routine.  I knew this woman once who had 3 kids, a set of twins and a singlette.  She was so organized and she thought her life was so crazy!  I loved it.  I remember being at her house early one morning dropping my daughter off to play as I went for an interview and she was making a to-do list.  I remarked how organized she was, and she said that if she didn't do that first thing in the morning she would go crazy!  I can understand.  I have so many things I have to do, though they are small house-wifey things that sometimes I just can't wrap my head around them.  It isn't about being organized, it's about having a routine and knowing what's coming up next so you don't go crazy!!

7. Read a book a week.
I didn't start this last week.  I would like to go for reading 40 to 50 books this year.  Thank goodness for the library :)
